Why Dress Modestly?

So, we promised you this article and we have delivered. I consulted a friend who has a few brothers and here are some things they hate about immodest outfits and how they feel when girls dress immodestly.

"Honestly, when we see a girl dress immodestly it disgusts us a little, at first. It says that she doesn't respect herself and wasn't brought up to."

Translation for us women:
Respecting ourselves is, clearly, a big part of our attractiveness as women. Nitpicking our appearance until we hate it is not respectful, to us or God.

"We'll give a girl who is modest a second look."

Translation:
So dressing modestly is more attractive than dressing immodestly.

"You don't have to be Taliban modest, though. Like wearing floor length skirts and long sleeved baggy shirts in the middle of summer, that's over the top ridiculous."

Translation:
Fingertip length shorts are ok. Leave the bootie shorts on the rack, and T-shirts over tank tops.

Guys' brains are wired differently than girls. We've all heard it. But we never take to heart how true it is, otherwise dressing in a way that is modest would be on our minds more often. Society has a "politically correct/we don't want to make anyone feel weird," mindset. If dressing immodestly is weird and awkward for our guy friends, why don't we worry about them?

Don't pull the "not my problem, they think what they want to think," card. We as women have a responsibility to call men to a greater level of purity and Godliness. They, in turn, must keep their standards high so we can maintain a level of chastity and honor of God in how we dress.

So, what have we learned today? Modesty is not only glorifying God with our bodies, but more attractive to holy, Godly men. Men, who in the long run, will call us to deepen our relationship with Christ and purity for our husband. If we don't find and surround ourselves with men who have the same beliefs and love for God we do, we will end up chipping away at our spiritual pureness and beauty, and not realize how attractive a relationship with Christ is.

God bless!
